Larkin grew up the on the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay in Alabama. She loved learning about art from a young age - at both Bayside Academy and the Eastern Shore Art Center. She went on to study art and history at Georgetown University and while studying abroad in Italy.
After college, Larkin lived in NYC, where she loved taking in the artwork in the many galleries and museums and continued taking figure-drawing classes at the Art Students League in mid-town. She returned home to Alabama for law school, started her practice and then started a family. She has four beautiful children and continues to practice law on a part-time basis. As the children have gotten older, she made it a priority to get back into the studio and has so enjoyed having this outlet for her creative energy.
Much of her time painting is spent working on commissions, but she also loves to paint for the sheer joy of it. She enjoys trying new mediums and exploring new subjects.
Larkin is inspired by her childhood growing up in this area – the landscapes, the flora and fauna, jubilees and bay life. She loves capturing children exploring our natural world and the way they wonder at all the beauty and mystery within it. She enjoys playing with color, studying light and attempting to capture the simple beauty of our world. At the heart of her art is an appreciation for all of God's creation and a desire to reflect that beauty in her art. If you have an idea or a reference photo you would like to have painted, please feel free to contact her at LarkinPetersArt@gmail.com.
